Gemming Your Resto/Feral Druid, PSA

When you decide to play a Resto Druid and offspec into Feral (instead of Balance like a normal Resto Druid does), make certain you keep an eye on your gems.  And in case there was any confusion on the issue…

Gemming your amazing new gloves with Delicate Inferno Rubies will not, in fact, help you heal better.  Not that I have -any- personal experience with this matter whatsoever.  *wanders off mumbling about speed gemming during raid breaks*

Hellos!  I’m still around, if anyone is still checking out this blog. =D

San Diego Comic-Con came and went, and then I had a flurry of real life friends either coming back to town for a quick visit or moving away for the foreseeable future.  Haven’t had much time for WoW outside of raiding, and this blog has certainly suffered for it.

On a more positive note, my guild is now 6/7 Firelands!  We took out Alysrazor after a few half nights spent wiping on her… everything just sort of came together for us, and we figured it out.  That was pretty awesome.  And Staghelm just sorta fell over when we looked at him.  None of us had even done more than watch a video on TankSpot during a 10 minute break before giving him a shot.  So that was pretty neat.  I’d like to get a couple of posts up with information on both those fights (and Baelroc) in the next week or so.

Ragnaros is, naturally, the next encounter on our list.  We’ve seen phase 2, barely, so far, but I have high hopes for our work on him later this week.  Raiding has been a bit slow lately, with various vacations and the like stealing away our raiders.  Still, I’d like to get my guild into heroic modes soon and I think we have a good shot at taking Ragnaros down either this week or next.

Speaking of my guild, you may have noticed the little widget I added to the right side over there, with recruitment information.  We are still looking to fill in a couple of spots, just 2 or 3 at this point.  So, if you happen to be looking, or know someone who is looking, please check out Vigilance on the US-Uldum server!

Oh, and one last update!  I’m the proud owner of my guilds first (and currently only) Fandral’s Flamescythe! We were lucky to have that drop on our first kill of Majordomo Staghelm.  Though I’m not usually in cat form, it’s pretty awesome to morph into a fiery kitty of death on the occasions that I am.

[4.2] Key Removal

EDIT June 29, 2011:  4.2 hit the live servers yesterday, and it appears that Blizzard heard my pleas!  Despite the fact that neither of my favorite keys were listed as ones being kept, I still have both the Essence-Infused Moonstone and the Celestial Planetarium Key in my inventory!  I also had a variety of other quest related keys (including a key used to rescue poor Corki from his prison in Nagrad), which I promptly deleted. ^^*  I’m just happy to hold onto those two as tangible representations of my favorite accomplishments.

Like many others who have written on this subject, I have mixed feelings regarding the removal of keys… I can understand removing barriers to content, especially older content where the grind to access it is now excessive.  Overall, however, I only feel a sense of loss.

I remembered getting keyed for Burning Crusade heroics.  I worked so hard for those and was so proud to finally make it in!  I would run heroic dungeon pugs, and eventually found myself invited to a raiding guild.  When epic Flight Form was introduced, getting keyed for Anzu in Heroic Sethekk Halls was an awesome achievement (before “Achievements” were introduced!).  Now, even though anyone can summon the Raven Lord, I still hold tightly onto my keystone, onto the memories of how happy and excited I was to earn that same keystone and to defeat the Raven Lord.

When patch 4.2 hits I will be so sad to no longer find the Essence-Infused Moonstone sitting happily in my bags.

And then there was Algalon, in Ulduar… My guild didn’t get to Algalon until after we were well into ToC material…but when we managed a 25s heroic kill of the Iron Council and that Archivum Data Disc dropped… I bid the maximum number of DKP points that I could.   The abundance of silly astronomy references in the Algalon fight made that encounter a special treat for me, and I wanted to make certain that I would always be able to go back.  To this day I think I’m still the only person in my guild who has the 25s key for Algalon.

For those who haven’t seen Algalon before, I can appreciate that it might be difficult to find someone with a key who is also willing to go with you.  I can understand why Blizzard might want to remove attunements, and let people experience the older content if they want without being hindered… but that key means something to me.  Sure, let everyone who wants to see Algalon experience the encounter without attunement… but don’t take away my Celestial Planetarium Key.

Blizzard, even if they are no longer of value, no longer needed, please don’t forcible remove things that have personal significance to those who play your game.

When Level 2 Taurens Attack

After my guild raid on February 1, I noticed something weird going on in Stormwind.  At first, it was just people spamming a link in Trade chat.  The usual junk, I thought as I yawned about ready to head off for the night.  But then I saw it repeated in yells all over the city, and someone even posted it into guild chat.  At this point I started to pay more attention to what was going on around me and caught something about Horde at the gates…

It was only as I made my way to the cities entrance that I started to notice the skeletons.  There weren’t many at first, but as I got out into the Valley of Heroes they began to pile up… and then I saw them…level 2 Taurens, corpse hoping their way into Stormwind.  It seemed an impossible journey, but there were just so many of them.  They would rez, take a few steps die, run back, rez, take a few steps, run back, on and on and on… the level 2 Taurens just keep popping up!

Finally I decided to check out this link everyone was still spamming and discovered it was a live feed from Gamebreaker TV…showing Stormwind being invaded by level 2 Taurens.  After a few minutes of listening, it became apparent what was going on.  The website/channel was holding a race; the first level 2 Tauren to make it to the main Auction House in Stormwind on the Uldum server would be declared the winner.  I’ve heard of these sort of things….but seeing it live on MY server, that was certainly a hoot.  I fired up the old Moonfire button and join the fray, spam-attacking every Tauren in sight.  After all, what good is a contest like this without some obstacles, right?

Eventually, someone made it all the way to the stage behind the auctioneers.  I don’t remember who it was exactly, but hats off to them!  The Alliance definitely did not make it easy.  After the winner was declared on Gamebreaker TV, they decided to try for one more thing….getting as many level 2 Taurens into the AH and dead all at the same time to provide the room with some new carpeting… Tauren cowhides.

The new carpeting in the Action House, along with a large chunk of the Stormwind population.

I’m really glad I stuck around after the raid to see this… it was tons of fun to participate in.

Thanks Gamebreaker TV for all the laughs!!
